2012 Youth Mission Trip

There is a meeting for any parents and students interested in joining us for the 2012 High School Mission Trip to West Virginia on Sunday, February 19, immediately following the 10:45 service. We will meet in the Social Hall. Please come to get final details on fundraising and details for the trip. If you can’t make it, please let Tiffany know. The trip will be from Sunday, June 17 – June 24, 2012. Total cost before fundraisers is $400 per student.

Nickel Challenge (with Pies!)

Beginning Ash Wednesday (Feb. 22) and continuing all through Lent, D101 students are joining forces to help raise awareness and money for the Malaria initiative. D101 is made up of six small groups, divided by grade and gender. Those six groups will be competing in a “Nickel Challenge,” raising money for nets, as our church and ELCA have been promoting. Each team will have a milk jug to deposit nickels into each week. At the end of the six weeks, whichever team has collected the most money at the end of the challenge will win. There’s a catch, though. Other teams can sabotage the total by adding in quarters, dimes and dollar bills. Anything other than nickels will subtract from the teams total!! For example, if Team Sushi brings in $1.00 worth of nickels, but Team Blue Dat throws a quarter into Sushi’s bucket, their total is now only $.75 and so on. At the end of the six week challenge, the students in the group with the highest total get to throw a pie in the face of their fearless leaders! D101 leaders have stepped out on faith each week to teach our junior high students, but are really daring to be different, for the sake of the cause! Start saving those nickels!

ROCK

Reaching Out to Christ’s Kingdom

ROCK is no longer just for high school students. ROCK was challenged to define who we are as a group and our mission as we look towards the future. The group would like to welcome any high school and college age young adults to be a part of this community. We meet Wednesday nights 7:00 in the Youth Room (near Shepherd’s Gate.) We have fun, food and great discussions. ROCK is committed to welcoming others and serving the community around us. All are welcome to help fulfill our new mission statement:

We are a diverse group of young adults whose mission is to embrace community, explore truth, express faith and experience God.
