First Communion Classes

In the sacrament of the Lord’s Super, the Church acts out the drama of God’s love for humankind. People hungering for faith and hope and love are fed, and then sent to share this food with others.

We are excited to be offering First Communion Classes for all 4th graders during this season of Lent. As these young people grow and mature, they are taking their initial steps into full membership of the church. One of those steps is to learn the history and tradition of the Lord’s Supper, and to experience their First Communion at our Maundy Thursday Service.

Our classes will take place on Wednesdays, March 10, 17 and 24, from 5:30 till 6:30 pm. We look forward to sharing
this learning experience with our 4th graders and their families.

First Communion will take place on Maunday Thursday, April 1 at 7:00 pm.

Bible Presentations

On Sunday, March 14th, we will celebrate the presentation of Bibles to our 3-year old children and 3rd grade children. Letters have been sent to the parents of our 3-year olds and third graders. If you didn’t receive one, please contact Pastor Tracy. Additionally, we will celebrate and recognize those with 50 years of membership at Our Savior’s by presenting Bibles to these friends.

Sunday School for Children

Spirit Night Live

There is an old African Proverb that says, “When you pray, move your feet.” Throughout the season of Lent, we will be providing the children of our church many opportunities to get their prayers moving!

During the weeks of Lent, the children at Spirit Night Live will be exploring The Lord’s Prayer. Jesus’ words, recorded in both Matthew and Luke, were a response from his disciples: “Lord, teach us to pray.” Jesus’ reply has become a central, virtually unchanged piece of our Christian worship. The prayer is spoken on behalf of others, and echoes with voices from the past, present, and future. The emphasis is on community rather than self. Through this concern for others, expressed in prayer, we can feel connected with God.

The children will have a variety of ways that they will be able to get their prayers moving at Spirit Night Live. They will be helping to make the Baby Blankets that are given to our littlest ones at their baptism or their first birthdays. We will be saying prayers for the recipient as we tie the knots in the fleece blankets. SNL kids will also get their hands moving as they learn to “say” the Lord’s Prayer in Sign Language. All children in Kindergarten through 5th grade are welcome to join us on Wednesday evenings!

Our new and improved schedule for the evening will be:

5:00 - 5:40 pm Family Dinner

5:40 - 5:45 pm Opening Prayer

5:45 - 6:15 pm Music & Choir  Rehearsal

6:15 - 7:00 pm Story & Activities Time

Children are dismissed at 7:00 pm. We hope that your children will join us for this time to discover the great plans that God has to make us whole and healthy in mind, body and spirit.

Lenten Offering

Many of our children have seen the reports, or heard of the earthquake that hit Haiti earlier this year. We have included our sisters and brothers in Haiti in our prayers. Now, we’d like to give our children a way to act on their prayers for Haiti. Each Sunday of Lent, the children will be invited to bring in one of the items needed for the Health Care Kits that WELCA creates for Luther World Relief. LWR was able to rush many of these kits to Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake, but their supplies are running low. We can help replenish this supply. Children may bring their donations to Sunday School or they may bring it up during the Children’s Message.
